Community Support Helps Renew Katie’s Cottage

On June 11, Katie Cares gratefully received a grant cheque from the Winkler Community Foundation. Grants like these play a vital role in the life of a charity, helping to support important upgrades and improvements that enhance the experience for guests and strengthen day-to-day operations.

This year, the Katie Cares board identified a meaningful project: improving the dining room tables at Katie’s Cottage. After more than 10 years of faithful use, the tables remain in good structural condition, and after some research, the decision was made to refinish rather than replace them. This choice reflects both stewardship and sustainability—reusing, recycling, and preserving quality items wherever possible.

The Winkler Community Foundation generously granted $3,500 to support this refurbishment project. This contribution made it possible to restore the dining room tables and extend their life for many more years of service. The refreshed space will continue to provide comfort and a welcoming, home-like atmosphere for guests and families staying at Katie’s Cottage.
